DamBusters Sheet: Platinium Edition![]() Exceptionally Low Print RunFrom May 2008, we introduced our "Platinum Edition" stamp sheets. These are our usual, incredible stamp sheets but with an exceptionally low print run. ALL our sheets are investment-quality limited editions. ALL of them often sell out pre-release. So imagine how incredible these even stricter limited editions will be! Priority on these sheets goes to members of our Sheets Clubs. If there are any left over, they will be offered to non-members but we suspect most of the time, you won't get a chance to own one at new issue price unless you join. You might find one on eBay later of course, but history suggests the price will be crazy by then! We are doing this to give yet another great benefit to our members of our Sheets Clubs and to thank them (you!) for their (your!) loyalty. Superb Piece of Military ArtThe first of our "Platinum" Editions is this stunning sheet marking the 65th Anniversary of the Dambusters. Created by award winning designer, Cath Buckingham, it features the fabulous artwork of Frank Wootton. One of the greatest military artists of all time, the Canadian Museum of Flight described Frank Wootton as 'The Dean of Aviation Art': "A class, traditional painter" while Air Chief Marshal Sir Neil Wheeler once said that Wootton's paintings 'leave one with the impression that the aircraft could actually fly'. He was the first aviation artist to have a book published on the subject and was for many years, president of the prestigious Guild of Aviation Artists. See Wootton, F. Frank Wootton: 50 Years of Aviation Art, 1997 Limited to 617 copiesWe printed a strictly limited edition of 617 worldwide as a tribute to 617 Squadron. That means it was almost sold out to our Sheet Club members before anyone even saw it! We can’t ever produce more so it has to be a gold plated winner. Signed EditionGeorge "Johnny" Johnson DFM, one of the last Dam Busters, personally signed a very limited number. He was a Sergeant and the bomb-aimer of Joe McCarthy's ED825 AJ-T that successfully attacked the Sorpe Dam. The only Lancaster of the second wave to make it to the dams, the single Upkeep bomb was not sufficient to breach the Sorpe. George was awarded the DFM for the mission. He very kindly signed to raise funds for the charity, Bomber Command. Multi-Signed EditionThere was also a multi-signed option, personally autographed by Les Munro, Fred Sutherland and Grant MacDonald. The Dam Busters617 Squadron, RAF, "The Dambusters" was a single squadron formed during the Second World War to carry out a single special and dangerous task. That operation "Chastise" has since become a legend in the annals of military history and it possess all the traditionally admired military attributes of originality, surprise and heroism coupled with a very dramatic outcome.
