Personally signed by Gordon Tracy
A limited number of these covers were hand-signed by David Graham. David Graham was the voice of Gordon Tracy, Aloysius Parker, Brains, Kyrano and many more on the show, and makes the perfect accompanying signature for this cover. On top of this, he was also the early voice of the Dalek.
Gerry Anderson: A Quick History
This stamp issue commemorates Gerry Anderson, the creator of Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and other iconic television series. He delighted generations of youngsters, but although his first television production was the 1957 Roberta Leigh children's series The Adventures of Twizzle, it would be almost a decade before his most famous and successful production, Thunderbirds, would be produced. He stunned the world with a new puppetry technique known as supermarionation, and with Thunderbirds created a series that is still shown to this day. Following the adventures of ex-astronaut Jeff Tracy and his five sons, their International Rescue organisation helped those in grave danger using technically advanced machinery and equipment. With the news in January of this year that Anderson will be producing a new series of his iconic show, Thunderbirds may yet continue to enterntain and fascinate a whole new generation. Thunderbirds Are Go, indeed!
What is a first day cover?
At its most basic level, a first day cover (FDC) is an envelope bearing stamps postmarked on the first day that the stamps were issued. A cover originates from the practice of covering a letter in a separate sheet, so that it remained protected and safe from prying eyes. On the day the penny black was first issued, 1 May 1840, so emerged the very first FDC. Click here to find out more about first day covers
This cover was automatically reserved for anyone in our Silver, Gold or Platinum clubs (signed or unsigned, depending on your personal preference) and at the lowest possible price (£10.95 for the unsigned edition at new issue). Click here to find out about our cover clubs.
