There'll be a Welcome in the Hillside...![]() Wales has traditionally conjured up images (for those who don't know any better!) of Daffodils, leeks, rugby and male voice choirs. In recent times however, it's seen a dramatic shift in image and is now more cosmopolitan and popular than ever before. For nature lovers, it's wild and picturesque landscape still draws tourists and travellers from around the world. It's clean waters of the south-west are a magnet for a myriad of marine creatures too, including Dolphins, Porpoises and even Leatherback Turtles! Originally a Celtic land Wales was integrated into England with the Laws in Wales Acts 1535–1542, creating the legal entity known today as England and Wales (and for those who enjoy the occasional pub quiz: this is why the Union Jack doesn't feature a reference to the Welsh flag!). It's no coincidence that Wales has been referred to as the "land of song" - since the revival of the Eisteddfod festival, Wales has produced a number of celebrated singers, as well as actors and other artists, some of whom have achieved international success. We're producing two covers for the Celebrating Wales issue from Royal Mail in 2009. Our main cover features the Miniature Sheet issued on 26th February 2009. As with others in this series, we've taken the patron saint of Wales, St David - featured in the miniature sheet - as the theme for the cover. We are very pleased to announce that The Archbishop of Wales and Bishop of Llandaff, The Most Reverend Dr Barry Morgan is signing our miniature sheet cover for us. The second in our Celebrating Wales pair of covers features the three new stamps from the Miniature Sheet. The illustration is a superb Cuneo painting of Ffestiniog Railway, which Carole Cuneo has kindly given us permission to use. Carole has also agreed to sign a few of these covers for us as well. If you are a member of our Bronze, Gold or Platinum clubs, this miniature sheet cover will automatically be reserved for you.
Our Matching Stamps CoverWe've taken the three new stamps from the miniature sheet to produce this charming cover. It is officially postmarked in Ffestiniog and the two covers together will make a great pair! Don't miss out - book yours today!
